Over the time I have found that people who manage to create nice looking websites and drive visitors to them are so happy with that, that they forget to really put a lot of efforts into monetizing them.

The easiest way to monetize your website is to display banner ads.
The banner ads should be displayed above the fold so that they have maximum impact:

- right or left sidebar: square /
rectangular ads (250x250px, 300x250px,
336x280px), skyscraper like (120x600,
